The ad for this fashion show said “this is not your grandma’s fashion show”, and that tagline couldn’t be more on point! Developed by Cake N Bacon Productions as a fusion of a fashion show and a wine tasting, Fashion Wine Up has developed into a unique event where talented independent designers can showcase their latest designs while the audience is treated to a variety of top-notch wines by show sponsors Blue Nun (@bluenunwines).
This years event featured designs by D’Marie Fashion, VDINX, Anita Evans, Pash The Brand, C Denim, Trendz N Treasurz, Jessica Hayes, and Carlyle Williams. The dazzling array of designs covered everything from urban fashion and avant garde garments to classic menswear and couture dresses.
Tisa Key, author of the book “To Die Alone” brought some levity to the event as she talked about some of the realities of mental illness and suicide awareness, showing that a fashion show can also be a vehicle to shine the light on important issues affecting our society.
The event was hosted by celebrity hairstylist Dallas Christopher and TV One personality Cheré Turner, while Rollingout Live hosts Lipstick and Cognac (@lipstickandcognac) served as pre-show VIP hosts.
OC “The Voice” was the evening’s Wine Commentator and the audience also enjoyed performances by a number of US-based artists including sultry singer April Lane (@theaprillane), whose rendition of the Gnarls Barkley hit “Crazy” made the lady sitting next to me blurt out “damn this chick can blow!”
I can safely say that this was probably the only fashion show in the world that also featured a presidential candidate, a soul singer, a classic violin soloist, a hip-hop artist, a motivational speaker/book author, models from age 13 to glamorous gray, and wine with gold flakes in it, all under the same roof. Fashion Wine Up was indeed a unique experience and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll do next.
